Job Summary
Regularly and customarily performs the most skilled work on all electronic and Distributed Controls Systems in the generating facility, and will direct other maintenance personnel when assigned or assisting with work. When requested, will assist in all types of electrical and instrumentation maintenance, construction, controls tuning and inspection work, as may be necessary.
Duties
The following are examples of the work which the Electronic Controls Specialist will be called upon to perform regularly and as requested, to include, but not limited to:
Maintaining files and configurations of Distributed Controls Systems, Programmable Logic Controls, and Advanced Electronic Systems, to include: loading of software, backing-up of data, editing of configuration, and development and maintenance of logic with management approval. Also, maintaining hardware of the DCS, PLC, Process Link, and PI and other advanced electronic systems through troubleshooting, and repair. Replacement of modules, CRT's, HMI's, or other electronic components.
Utilize plant instrumentation, and direct observation to analyze system problems and monitor control system performance. Utilize ABB/Bailey, Siemens T3000, Woodward Controls, OSI PI, or PC-based engineering programs to analyze field data. Prepare reports with results of equipment diagnostic analysis. Develop solutions to equipment problems. Utilize Process Link and PI systems to monitor plant performance.
Will prepare and maintain such records, reports, and schedules, as may be necessary, in conjunction with the operation and maintenance of the above work.
Regularly and customarily directs the work of one or more assigned personnel, and instructs others who may be assigned to assist.
When the above type assignments are not available, the Electronic Controls Specialist will perform routine Instrument and Electrical work with which he is familiar.
Must be able to read, understand electrical prints and logic diagrams, and apply data from technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics of the power plant and its associated equipment
Will perform any other related or less-skilled work as required or directed.
In addition to the above and other work of similar grade, an Electronic Controls Specialist may be assigned to any other work of equal or lesser skill, within the capabilities of the individual, to meet operating needs.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Must have completed some career technical education
Minimum of five (5) years electrical or I&C experience in an industrial setting
Must be able to read and understand complex and detailed blueprints, electrical drawings, logic diagrams, schematics, P&ID's, instruction manuals, etc.
Must have basic computer skills and experience using Microsoft office products
Successful candidates must receive a rating of Recommended on the NRG Pre-employment Assessment
Must be willing to occasionally work overtime, nights, holidays and weekends.
Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Training or experience on computer-based data acquisition systems
Formal OEM training on control systems
Familiarity with NERC CIP regulation requirements
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledgeable in the principals of the operation of a fossil-fueled power station is desired with particular interests in controls, operations, controls system maintenance, and plant performance.
Must be able to utilize spreadsheet, graphics and database software.
Must be able to work with various levels of department and company management.
Familiarity with NERC CIP regulation requirements
Demonstrated success in resolving technical problems and documentation skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
Effective verbal and written communications skills. Incumbent must be articulate and able to provide sometimes complex technical explanations. Writing skills must be adequate to produce reports and documents issues and recommendations. Ability to effectively comprehend the complex technical material.
Demonstrated success multitasking and completing deliverables before deadlines.
Effective computer skills using Microsoft office products.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, hot and cold temperatures and moderate to high noise environments. This position requires a person to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, push, walk, stand and climb.
Incumbent must be able to access most areas of the plant environment.
Walking occurs frequently; must have the ability to walk up to one half (1/2) mile on plant grounds, sometimes over varying terrain and through wet or damp areas.
The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders to gain access to equipment.
Sitting, squatting and bending or twisting of the torso is required frequently in worksite inspections.
Entering confined spaces is sometimes required.
Working at heights on the scaffold, grating, man baskets/lifts and concrete floors with exposed sides are sometimes required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
